Hello there,

I have been trawling the internet trying to find possible wedding reception venues. We were initially looking at a campsite wedding, having a marquee on a campsite so that our guests could just stay in close proximity to the venue without having to fork out for hotels etc, but we aren't having much luck finding a suitable venue. We have decided to look at function rooms and similar halls to host the reception but we are generally struggling for ideas as to where is suitable in the Hayle/St Ives area. Most places that do this sort of thing are hotels and it's not really what we want.

I did look at the St Ives Arts Centre, but I don't think it'd host 100 people like we need. If anybody has any suggestions I'd be very very greatful!

Thank you.

what about Polmanter? The other camp site who may be more flexible is Ayr just in Town?

A long shot but might be worth a try:

You could look at holding your reception on Ayr Field:

http://www.ayrfield.org.uk/

Plenty of space for a marquee - not sure if they would go for it but if you offer them a reasonable donation ..... worth asking.

Guests could then stay at Ayr campsite just up the road or one of the cheaper sites outside town.

St Ives Arts club can only hold around 50 people.

If I can help further let me know.

Thank you both for your help.

Over the past few weeks I have enquired at some marquee hire companies and found that the cost to get a marquee + transport etc down to St Ives makes this prospect no better than hiring a hall or function room.

At the minute we have a few halls that we are considering. 2 locations in Falmouth and one at Lelant. I also enquired at the Hayle PEI, with no luck. I believe the Masonic Hall in Hayle is also to small. Are there any other options like that in the area?

Thank you again!

Hi, just joined the forum after I read this thread.

We got married in St Ives a few years ago and had our reception at the Western Hotel. It has a good size room with a bar and dance floor. I think they only charged about £50 for the room and can provide catering to suit any budget. We had a wonderful time there. Just another option for you to look at.

Cheers Matt, I have just contacted them - We are travelling down this weekend to view some venues, so I've added it to the list!

Thanks again everyone.

Hello again, we've returned from our 2 days trip - 700 miles later we have 2 venues to seriously consider.

Matt - I was impressed with the Western Hotel, Alan seemed to be very understanding to our needs and looked like he would accomodate our needs. I don't think the fiancee was as impressed though. Her concerns are for the quality of the food (as she wanted to look at the catering herself rather than have someone else do it) Also, she was concerned with what to do if the weather was bad, something that will be an issue no matter where the venue is in my opinion. I'm sure we'll discuss it further this week though. How did you find the food and things?

Cheers

Neil

Hi Neil.

We found the food to be fine, though we did just have a buffet. I'm sure they would let you use outside caterers though. We had pretty good weather on our day. it did rain for a bit, but we were all inside by then. We got married at Bedford rd, so had pictures there, then some on the pier. Only had a few pics outside the western, just my wife and I on the steps. We had a really great day there. I'm sure you'll find what's right for you.

I take it St ives was just a nice as ever when you were there. Can't wait to get there for new year.

Matt.
